Simple Introduction to Main Sessions in Forex Market

We know that forex market opens for 24 hours seamlessly in regions all over the world; but generally, the 24-hour trading period in forex market can be generally divided into three main sessions around the world: the Europe session, North American session and Asian session and the three major sessions for the global forex markets cover forex activity in a great part of the world, spanning most of the world’s time zones.

Main session No. 1 in forex market: Asian session

I want to introduce the Asian session first because it is always the first session to open in forex market after weekends. Almost all the Forex trading activities are centered on Tokyo secession, which opens between midnight and 6 am Greenwich Mean Time (GMT); However, there are many other countries who play active role in Asian session of the forex market, which includes China, Australia, New Zealand and Russia. Considering how scattered these forex trading secessions are, the beginning and end of the Asian session are stretched beyond Tokyo hours. Generally, Asian session is often considered to be active from 11pm to 8am GMT.

Main session No. 2 in forex market: Europe session

The next session in forex market is Europe session, which opens just before the Asian session closes. The Forex market during Europe session is also quite active for forex trading. There are several symbolic trading centers during Europe session and London is normally regarded as the most important one. Official business hours in London run from 7:30am to 3:30pm GMT. And like Asian session, Europe trading period is expanded due to other capital markets’ presence. When the London session is open, liquidity from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, plus African and Middle Eastern nations will contribute to the liquidity of the forex market. Europe session is typically seen as running from 7am to 4pm GMT.

Main session No. 3 in forex market: North American session

The time when North American session opens, the Asian secession has already been closed for some hours and Europe forex traders have experienced half of forex market changes. In North American session, there are many trading centers such as U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and other South American countries. The North American session is centered in New York,which officially opens from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
